5 Fish is more than a business — it's a reflection of the neighborhood we call home. We show up, pick up a brush, and build alongside our neighbors.
Rogers Park is one of Chicago's most diverse and vibrant neighborhoods. It's where Lake Michigan meets community murals, local music, and a welcoming, close-knit vibe.
When we founded 5 Fish in 2023, putting down roots here wasn't a business decision — it was a commitment to being part of something bigger. That means showing up for the festivals, supporting local causes, and getting paint on our hands.
We've painted the lakefront seawall two years running at Artists of the Wall. We've participated in organizing our block party for two consecutive years — even sponsoring the bounce house one summer. This is what it looks like to be a neighbor, not a bystander.
Every Father's Day weekend, Rogers Park transforms the 600-foot seawall at Loyola Park into a massive community mural. What started in 1993 as a response to graffiti has become one of Chicago's most beloved neighborhood traditions.
5 Fish has been proud to participate for two consecutive years — painting our own section of the wall and joining thousands of neighbors for live music, food, and lakefront views. The artwork stays up until the following May, a year-round reminder of what community looks like.
In 1993, the Loyola Park seawall had become a canvas for graffiti — its own form of artistic expression claiming public space. A group of Rogers Park neighbors had an idea: what if the community created art there too? Not to erase, but to add. To make the wall something everyone could contribute to.
The wall works because artists respect artists. When a space belongs to the whole community — when your neighbors' work is up there alongside yours — it gets treated differently. Three decades later, Artists of the Wall is proof that shared ownership changes everything.
